The words of this site

The glossary

Softanza and this site use some words in a sense of their own. Each is defined once here, in plain terms, with the page that tells it.

Aïcha
The name given to the coming intelligence layer: knowledge, models and agents, on your own device, bound by the rule that a model proposes and never commits. Named, not built: no product ships under that name today. see: The estate, stage by stage
Area
One of the twenty-eight themes of computation the platform covers, from text and exact numbers to maps, sound and security. Each has a page in the Atlas, a guide and a reference. see: The areas
Atlas
The map of the platform's areas, each rated lane by lane against the best of its category, with what is still owed said out loud. see: The areas
Cell
One block of code in a course chapter, shown with the result its run produced. see: Course
Constellation
A platform made of worlds joined by declared bonds, sharing one ground of identity, data and services, and governed as one. see: Platform of platforms
Core, base, max
The three layers of the library, one vocabulary at three depths. Core holds the lean essentials, base the whole platform, max the advanced pieces. A program chooses its depth by the file it loads. see: Architecture
Court
Whatever judges a claim by checking it or running it, instead of believing it: for a promise, for a declaration, for an act an agent proposes. see: Safe agents
Declare
To write what you want and not how to get it, in a small language made for the subject. A declaration is plain text, and it is judged when it is run. see: Language of languages
Estate
Softanza and everything built around it: Haro, Harobanda, Aïcha, Takamba and the products, each with its stage. see: The estate, stage by stage
Extension (suffix)
A short ending that adds one meaning to a method name and means the same in every class: CS for a case dial, W for a condition, XT for extended options, Z and ZZ for positions and sections. see: Writing
Guard
A program that judges: it runs and it passes or fails, and what it says is never a comment. A scenario guard is one written as a story of given, when and then. see: Narrations
Haro, Ring++ and Ring
Softanza runs today on its Ring face, kept so that the code already written keeps working. Ring++ is the bridge, in construction. Haro is the destination. see: Why Softanza leaves Ring
Harobanda
The declared machine: an operating system written as plain text, one file per box, that boots in an emulator. The floor of the estate. see: Sovereignty
Journey
The steps one kind of person takes, in order, with the part of Softanza that serves each step and its stage. see: Start
Lane
One capability inside an area, rated Strong, Solid, Partial or Emerging against the best of its category. The Atlas holds 334. see: The areas
Language of languages
What Haro is meant to be: you declare the language of your own domain, and it runs it. see: Language of languages
Layer
See core, base, max. see: Architecture
Narration
An article of the author's: an essay that tells a part of the library in code written to be run as it is read. The site publishes all of them, and says for each which blocks kept their promise when run. see: Narrations
Overlay
A folder that adapts a course to an institution: its world, its words, its examples, without touching the course itself. see: Teach, or design courses
Platform of platforms
Softanza's way of being a platform: each organisation declares its own platform, in its own words, and Softanza gives it everything a platform needs. see: Platform of platforms
Promise
The answer written under an arrow, #-->, beneath a line of code. A run must reproduce it, and a court compares the two. see: The Softanza way
Q form
A method name ending in Q hands the object back, so the sentence can go on. Q(value) lifts a plain value to its object. A plain form returns data; a Q form returns the object. see: Writing
Refinement
Change under governance: an edit is proposed, rehearsed, judged and only then committed, and it can be undone. see: Refinement
Software crafter
Someone who turns what they know about a world into software that runs, without waiting for the software industry, and who owns the artefact: it is theirs, in plain text, and it does not expire. see: Adopt
Stage words
Built: the code and its guard exist. In construction: it is being made. Specification: written and not built. Designed: thought through, not specified to build. Named: the name exists and nothing else. Every product and every step carries one. see: The estate, stage by stage
Takamba
The harness: how Softanza is built, many working sessions on one body of work, with a doctrine of laws each cited to the incident that paid for it. Formerly named Bangalo. see: The estate, stage by stage
The Softanza way
How to think, how to write and how it is judged, as one discipline: seven steps of thought and fourteen rules of writing. Every box headed this way on the site links to it. see: The Softanza way
Twin
A copy of a system that holds no reference to the real one, on which a plan is rehearsed before anyone commits it. see: For an architect
Wise coding
The inverse of vibe coding. It is Softanza that asks the person, measures the gap between what it knows and what a complete model needs, and judges every answer before it is admitted. see: Wise coding
Workbench
Where an agent's plan is rehearsed on a twin of the system. Only a governed actor commits what comes out of it. see: Safe agents
World
An application declared as a living world of meaning: the things in it, their relations and their rules. A platform is a constellation of worlds. see: Platform of platforms
Zui
The constitution of the interface: 122 rules and 22 verbs that judge any screen, this site included. see: Zui constitution
